Veterinary behavior is offered at the Gold Coast Center for Veterinary Care. Behaviorsts are trained to help strengthen the relationships between an animal’s health, environment, experiences and their behavior. They have extensive knowledge of psychotropic medications, their uses, potential side effects and interactions with other medications, and are licensed to prescribe them appropriately.

Veterinary treatment alone is not always effective in the treatment of emotional disorders in pets. Usually, behavioral specialists are necessary as well.

Dr. Megan Petroff uses Fear Free™ and low-stress handling techniques. She completed a three-year Residency in Clinical Behavioral Medicine under the mentorship of a Board-Certified Veterinary Behaviorist. Dr. Petroff is able to diagnose and treat the more complex disorders, including but not limited to:

  • Aggression
  • Circling/Spinning
  • Cognitive Dysfunction (Dementia)
  • Compulsive Behavior
  • Fly Snapping
  • Generalized Anxiety
  • Geriatric Care
  • Global Fears
  • Leash Reactivity
  • Marking
  • Night Anxiety
  • Noise Aversion
  • Refractory House-training
  • Separation Anxiety
  • Thunderstorm Phobia
  • Urination and Defecation outside of the litter box

Board-Certified Behavior Services are available at Gold Coast Center for Veterinary Care by appointment. Please call 631-923-2530 for more information or to book an appointment.
